Tucked into the Grand Valley on Colorado’s Western Slope, Palisade is one of the state’s most scenic and vibrant summer destinations. Known as Colorado’s Fruit and Wine Country, this small town comes alive in the warmer months with things to do, places to eat, and a packed calendar of festivals and events to attend.
Whether you’re sipping your way through local wineries, biking the Palisade Plunge, catching live music, or simply looking for a relaxed getaway with family, Palisade offers something for everyone.
At the center of it all is Palisade Basecamp, a modern camping resort set on 14 acres along the Colorado River. With easy access to downtown, nearby wineries, and outdoor recreation, it’s the perfect home base for experiencing everything Palisade has to offer.
Why Visit Palisade in the Summer?
Summer in Palisade is a season unlike any other in Colorado. The Grand Valley basks in warm, sunny days and cool, comfortable evenings. Temperatures typically reach the mid-80s to low 90s, perfect for winery hopping, river paddling, and patio dining.
Peak season runs June through August, and timing your visit right can open the door to many experiences: the arrival of cherry and apricot season in June, the legendary peach harvest in late July and August, and a packed calendar of festivals and events throughout the summer.
2026 Summer Festivals & Events Calendar
This summer is an exceptional time to visit Palisade. The festival calendar is packed, and 2026 marks both America’s 250th anniversary and Colorado’s 150th, meaning celebrations across the region will be bigger and more special than ever.
Palisade Bluegrass & Roots Festival – June 5-7, 2026
Kick off the summer season with one of Colorado’s most beloved music festivals. Now in its 16th year, the Palisade Bluegrass & Roots Festival transforms Riverbend Park into a riverside haven for music lovers. National headliners share the stage with Colorado’s finest emerging artists, and the vibe is relaxed, friendly, and completely magical.
Beyond the music, the weekend is packed with activities: yoga sessions at sunrise, drum circles, paddleboarding on the river, bourbon tastings, and a Sunday farmers market. Guests who stay at Palisade Basecamp are just minutes away and can enjoy all the comforts of a full-service campground between sets.
Pro Tip: Book your Basecamp site well in advance. Bluegrass weekend sells out fast!

15th Annual Colorado Lavender Festival – June 26-28, 2026
Every June, the Grand Valley transforms into a sea of purple as lavender farms reach peak bloom. The 15th Annual Colorado Lavender Festival is a three-day celebration that starts with private hosted farm tours on Friday, June 26, moves to the main event at Riverbend Park on Saturday, June 27, and concludes with self-guided farm tours on Sunday, June 28.
The Saturday festival features dozens of vendors selling handcrafted lavender products, including soaps, culinary items, and more. That same evening, there’s a special ticketed Lavender & Wine dinner, pairing the valley’s fragrant harvest with its award-winning wines. It’s an only-in-Palisade experience.
Palisade Peach Festival – August 21-22, 2026
The crown jewel of the Palisade summer calendar, the Peach Festival is a beloved two-day celebration marking the peak of peach harvest season. Friday, August 21, runs from 3-9 pm; Saturday, August 22, from 10 am-8 pm.
Expect live music from an all-Colorado lineup on the Peach Jam Stage, chef demos with farm-to-table cooking, a peach-eating contest, fresh peach ice cream, peach pies, peach drinks, and more peachy goodness. New for 2026: a special drone show celebrating America’s 250th anniversary and Colorado’s 150th.
Pro Tip: Parking in Palisade is very limited during Peach Fest. Staying at Palisade Basecamp means you can shuttle or bike to the festival without the parking headache.
Colorado Mountain Winefest – September 19, 2026
Cap off your summer in Palisade with one of the nation’s most acclaimed wine festivals. Now in its 35th year, the Colorado Mountain Winefest has been reimagined for 2026 with a more intimate, elevated experience. Capacity is capped at under 2,000 guests, so you’ll have plenty of room to connect with Colorado’s winemakers and chefs without the crowds. Reserved ticket holders enjoy an exclusive early entry hour from 11 am to 12 pm to explore at their own pace. It’s the perfect excuse to extend your summer camping trip into the harvest season, when the valley is at its most beautiful.

Things to Do in and Around Palisade
Explore Colorado Wine Country
Palisade is home to several wineries and tasting rooms, making it one of Colorado’s premier wine destinations. Summer is the ideal time to explore the Fruit & Wine Scenic Byway. A gorgeous route that winds through lavender gardens, peach orchards, and award-winning vineyards with sweeping views of the Grand Mesa.
Hike the Palisade Rim Trail
For one of the most spectacular views in Western Colorado, lace up your hiking boots and head to the Palisade Rim Trail. The full loop covers 13 miles and offers breathtaking views of the Grand Valley.
If you’re not up for a full day of hiking, the lower loop is a more manageable 4-mile hike that still offers incredible views of orchards and vineyards below.
Mountain Biking: The Palisade Plunge
Serious mountain bikers head to Palisade for the legendary Palisade Plunge. A 32-mile expert-level descent from the top of the Grand Mesa all the way down to town. For those seeking something more moderate, the Fruit & Wine Byway offers three cycling routes ranging from 5 to 25 miles, winding past wineries, orchards, and farm stands.
Colorado River Adventures
The Colorado River flows right along Palisade Basecamp, making it easy to take advantage of the water. Rent a kayak or paddleboard for floating, or join a guided rafting trip. On a hot summer afternoon, there’s nothing better than cooling off on the river with views of the mountains all around you.

U-Pick Orchards & Farm Stands
One of the most unique Palisade experiences is heading out to a u-pick orchard and picking your own fruit. In June and July, that means cherries, apricots, and early peach varieties. By late July and August, the famous Palisade peaches are at their peak.
The Palisade Farmers Market is also a wonderful way to stock up on fresh produce, local honey, and handmade crafts.
Colorado National Monument
Colorado National Monument offers some of the most breathtaking scenery in western Colorado. Towering red rock canyons, dramatic overlooks, and winding scenic drives make it an ideal spot for a peaceful afternoon adventure.
Keep an eye out for wildlife along the way; bighorn sheep are often spotted among the cliffs. For those looking to get out and explore, the Monument features a variety of hiking trails ranging from easy, family-friendly walks to more challenging routes with rewarding panoramic views.
Local Taprooms & Distilleries
If wine isn’t your thing, The Palisade Brewing Company is a local favorite for craft beer in a relaxed setting. Several cideries and distilleries round out the local beverage scene for those who want to explore outside of wine.
Lavender Farm Visits
Even outside of the Lavender festival weekend, several lavender farms near Palisade welcome visitors during bloom season. It’s a wonderful, aromatic afternoon that can include picking your own lavender, learning about the plant’s uses, and enjoying the gorgeous purple fields.
Palisade Basecamp: Your Home Base for It All
All of these adventures are even better when you have a great place to come home to, and that’s exactly what Palisade Basecamp offers. This modern, 14-acre resort sits along the Colorado River, nestled among vineyards and fruit orchards, just one mile from historic downtown Palisade.
